Dr. Sibrecht Reniere

Sibrecht worked as a field archaeologist (2008–2013) in Belgium and France, gaining experience in both governmental and private sectors. This period allowed him to develop his research skills, both in the field and during post-excavation analysis. In 2013, he began a PhD at Ghent University (Historical Archaeological Research Group), studying Roman stone implements as proxies for socio-economic processes in Gallo-Roman society. After completing his PhD in 2018, he helped establish FLEPOSTORE, a reference collection for stone and ceramics (FWO Hercules project) in collaboration with the Department of Geology. Since then he remained affiliated with HARG, contributing to FLEPOSTORE, giving guest lectures and conducting research. His ongoing work focuses on material culture, especially stone artefacts. In addition, Sibrecht has been actively involved in several archaeological synthesis projects funded by the Flemish Heritage Agency. For the same institution he also contributed to the research project ‘Developing Public-Friendly Access to Archaeological Knowledge and Collections’.
