UKAS 2026

This April, Prof Christophe Snoeck, Dr Barbara Vaselka, Dr Anna Karligkioti, Dr
Mackenzie Masters, and Lieke Bes travelled to Bristol for the 2026 UK
Archaeological Sciences conference. While LOCO is still in the early stages of
research, the team presented on their previous research and other ongoing projects.
Attending UKAS offered the team an amazing opportunity to connect with other
archaeological scientists, hear about the latest innovations in archaeological science,
and inspire ideas for how new methods could be applied in LOCO.
Some highlights from the team:

Lieke: This was my first ever conference, so it felt really special that I got to go
alongside a whole group of colleagues from the BB-Lab. I also got to present a
poster for the first time, which led to some good conversations about my research
with interested people.

Lieke also spoke with Prof Andrew Millard, a world-leading researcher in
archaeological applications of isotope geochemistry, about her poster and over
breakfast(!). It was no big deal, just making a splash networking with the big names
right out the gate, go Lieke!

Mackenzie: While I have attended many conferences at which the BB-LAB has also
attended, this was my first as an official member of the group! I had a great first
conference experience with the team and had fun introducing the LOCO and BB-
LAB members to my UK colleagues from the University of York. I look forward to
seeing where LOCO carries us and what sort of chaos we get into at the next
conference.

Anna: I am very happy to have recently attended the 2026 UKAS hosted by the
University of Bristol. During this thought-provoking 3-day conference, I had the
chance to meet new people, catch up with old colleagues and discuss my research.
